  CALIPH UMAR BN AL – KHA ŢŢĀ B (634-644) CE Life of ‘Umar before Islam Abu Haf s ‘Umar bn al–Kha ţţā b was born in 583CE in the ‘Addy branch of the renowned Quraysh family. His birth took place about 40 years before the migration from Makkah to Madinah (Hijrah). Before Islam, ‘Umar was temperamentally bad and distinguished himself in wrestling and oration. He was among the few people in Makkah who knew the art of reading and writing. When the Prophet Muhammad (S) got revelation and invited people to Islam, ‘Umar became a sworn enemy of Islam and its Prophet. He proved to be an obstacle in the progress of the new faith and religion. He became a changed person when he gave himself to God through acceptance of Islam in the sixth year of Islam. The rightly guide worked rigorously to maintained the faith from collapsing and ensure their blue print remain in the history book of the world for laying modern Islamic world, and that their name remain a soothing and generational hymn that cannot be done away it.   WHAT IS RIGHTLY GUIDED?   According to Yusuf and et. al ( 2012:19), The rightly guided are the first four caliphs that succeeded Prophet Muhammad after his death and the ruled from (632-661). They are also known as the Rash dun. WHO ARE THE RIGHTLY GUIDED CALIPHS?   The rightly guided caliphs are four and they are; Abubakar Sadiq who ruled for a period of two years from (632 -634), upon his death Umar took over the helm of affairs and ruled for a period of 10 years (634-644), Uthman ruled for a period of 12 years from (644-656) and lastly Ali bn Talib popular called the lion of Allah ( Assadullah) ruled for a period of 5 years from (656-661). Caliph Ali was assassinated by an assassin called Abdur raman who was sent by kwaraj a group loyal to the Ummayyad. His death brought to an end the era of rightly guided Caliphs

  INTRODUCTION Islam emerged strong with the movement of prophet Muhammad from   Mecca to Yathrib now called Medina but became pronounce and spread to Asia axis , Europe and Africa after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (S) and the emergence of the caliphate. The caliphs who took over the helm of affairs work enormously to lay the structures of modern Islam and also jealously guided the religion from cracking. The crack in it wheel of progress came as a result of power struggle between the Ansari, Muhajirun, the relatives of the prophets and the Ummayyad but these was amicable brought under control through the wisdom and spiritual inclination of the caliphs. The Caliphs from Abu-Bakr Sadiq (632-634) to Ali bn Talib (656-661) rightly worked with the Prophet from day one of his calling while the likes of Caliph Umar and Uthman later joined the calling of one God.
